Yellow ribbons were thrown from the grandstands in Tainan Stadium last night as Brother Elephants reliever Wu Choon-yee (§d«T»õ) struck out the last President Lions batter to complete the Elephants' title winning season, so far.
Elephants fans poured into the Stadium after the game to celebrate the victory as the Elephants defeated the Lions with the score of 8-3 in the title clinching match.
Nakagomi Shin, the Elephants' starter pitched eight innings while allowed just two runs to take the clinching game for the Elephants as he also gained his 15th win of the season, tying Sung Chao-chee (§º»F°ò) of the Chinatrust Whales and teammate Jonathan Hurst on the most-winning chart.
Lions starter Isreal Lomeli had a terrible outing as he only managed to produce one out before giving up four runs in the very first inning of the game.
The Elephants' Tsai Feng-an (½²Âצw) belted a grand slam off Lomeli to knock the first four runs and give the Elephants an early lead.
The Elephants also scored four more times as they defeated the Lions 8-3 to clinch the second half-season title of season 2002.
Meahwhile, in Taichung, the Chinatrust Whales completely crushed the Sinon Bulls' hope of a playoff berth by comprehensively smashing them 10-3.
Hung Chee-feng (¬x±Ò®p) and Chen Chien-wei (³¯°·°¶) each belted a three-run long bomb off Bulls starter Ho Chee-shien (¦ó¬ö½å) and knocked Ho out in the fourth inning.
Chen Wen-bin of the Whales also launched a solo home run to the right bleacher as his 25th home run made him the new record holder for most home runs hit by a local player in a single season.

Even though the visiting Kaohsiung Fala had only four hits for the entire game against Taipei Gida in last night's regular season finale, it made three of the four hits count in the two-run sixth that helped edge Gida 2-1.
Gida grabbed a one-run lead in the bottom of the third on shortstop Gabby Martinez's RBI single to left.
The one-run cushion seemed more than plenty because starter An Chih-hui (¦w´¼½÷) had a no-hitter going through the first five innings, before he was relieved by Yeh Chien-wen (¸½å¤å).
Yeh was unable to match his predecessor's success as he gave up the game-deciding two runs to Fala in the ill-fated sixth.
Fala starter Wang Yu-cheng (¤ý¥ÉÂí) enjoyed his first start of the season surrendering only one run on four hits over five innings of play.
The 2-to-1 Fala lead that Wang took in the sixth turned out to be enough for the win, thanks to fellow reliever Lee Yi-nan's (§õ¶h·£) three innnings of perfect relief appearance.
Lee's outstanding effort not only provided confidence to his teammates for the rest of the game, it also denied the Gida any chance of a potential comeback.
It was only fair that Lee's three perfect innings beat out Gida starter An's five innings of no-hit ball for the game's Most Valuable Player award.
