Taichung returns to form with against Chiayi

By Paul Huang  /  CONTRIBUTING REPORTER

Taichung Agan returned to its old league-leading form by defeating the visiting Chiayi Luka with a 7-1 score last night.

Luka got on the board first with center fielder Chen Kai-fa's solo homer in the first inning for an early one-run lead.

The run turned out to be the single blip that kept Agan starter Muto Koji from recording a complete-game shutout performance for the night.

Muto scattered a total of nine hits to an aggressive lineup of Luka hitters while striking out seven in the process.

Offensively for the Agan, the star of the game was right fielder Yang Jeh-chih, who was three-for-four with three runs batted home in the game.

Yang's outstanding offensive surge won him the game MVP honor for the match.

Luka starter Bicknell took the loss as he allowed all seven of the Agan runs on ten hits over six and one-third innings of work.

For those who are keeping a close watch on the batting title race between the Agan's shortstop Mejia and first baseman Hsieh Chia-chien, Hsieh made up some ground as he went 1-for-3 with one walk in the game.

Mejia was 0-for-1 with two walks.

The two players are only 0.005 percentage points apart in the closely fought battle.

With the series all tied up at one game apiece and the Luka fighting for their playoff hopes, tonight's game will be filled with much drama and will be eagerly anticipated, Taiwan Major League promotors said last night.
