American Aaron Meeks took the first round lead Thursday in the US$300,000 Taiwan Masters.
The 37-year-old from Las Vegas fired a brilliant 7-under-par 65 over the Tamsui Course at Taiwan Golf and Country Club.
Australian Kim Felton and Taiwan's Tsai Chi-huang are in second place following 68s while Taiwan's Yeh Wei-tze, Lu Wen-teh, amateur Kao Po-song, and American Mike Cunning all carded 69.
Meeks, looking for his first win on the Asian PGA Tour, fired eight birdies and dropped just one shot to move to the top of the leaderboard.
He birdied 17 and 18 to record one of the finest rounds of his 14-year professional career.
In-form Thammanoon Sriroj of Thailand, fresh from victory last week in a domestic event on the Thai Tour and in second place on the Davidoff Tour Order of Merit, is in the hunt after a 70.
Defending champion Daniel Chopra of Sweden returned a 75.
