Resurgent Angels beat Yankees

AP , NEW YORK

Gao Lung-wei (高龍偉) relieved Arroyo after the fifth run was scored.

Elephants' designated hitter Peng Cheng-min (彭政閔) then belted a long shot that went completely out of the park. This grand slam is the third in Peng's this season, tying the league record for most grand slam set by Luis Iglesias in 1991. "I knew that I hit a grand slam off Gao earlier this season but I figured I could not be so lucky to get another pitch like that [the previous grand slam], so I was just looking for a good pitch to hit," Peng said. "I was up when the bases were loaded, I just want to knock more runs in for the team."

The three-game homestand for the Taichung Agan ended on a high note as they demolished the Taipei Gida by a score of 12-1 last night en route to the series sweep.

Agan ace Huang Chin-chih pocketed his 15th win of the season giving up one run on six hits over seven innings of work. Huang's record of 15-2, with a below-two ERA should secure the regular season MVP honor for him at the end of the season.

For the Taipei Gida, starter Yeh "The Savior" Hsien-wen, was no match for the 20 Agan batters he faced. Yeh lasted only two and two-thirds innings; his shortest outing of the season, by yielding 11 runs on 12 hits.

Although Gida reliever Su Li-wei held the Agan to only one run after the third inning, his fellow hitters were unable to make up any grounds against Agan ace Huang for the rest of the game.

League home run leader, Agan first baseman Hsieh Chia-chien blasted a three-run shot over the left field fence for his 17th long ball of the season. His latest homer puts him four shots ahead of teammate Mejia.

The loss for the Gida ran their losing streak to five as they head back home to Taipei for next week's three-game series against the very same Taichung Agan.
