Petit was lucky to stay on the pitch after an altercation with Romero at the very end of the first half when he reacted to a foul by shoving his Uruguayan antagonist in the face.
Uruguay could have taken advantage of a clearly fading 10-man France in the final quarter of the game, but could not find the killer blow.
A draw seemed to be the fairest result when the final whistle blew and Uruguay's coach Victor Pua said, "Despite the absence of one player, France played well because of their quality.
"In the second half we played better and much stronger. We should have made a goal, but all in all, at the end it was just a draw."
