Taipei American School girls won the volleyball crown, while Jeffrey Lee raced to the boys cross country title yesterday at the Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asian Schools (IASAS) championships held in Taipei.

The Tiger girls avenged a loss to the International School ofKuala Lumpur in the robin-robin play to defeat the Panthers 25-14, 25-11, 25-22 in the championship match at the TAS gymnasium.

IASAS comprises six international high schools across the Southeast Asia region, including the International School Manila, the International School Bangkok, Singapore American School, Jakarta International School, Kuala Lumpur and Taipei.

In the boys volleyball tournament, TAS finished third. Singapore whipped Manila 3-0 for the boys title.

In the cross country race held at the TAS course in Yangmingshan National Park, junior Jeffrey Lee won in a time of 21:31, edging Go Nishida of Bangkok by 17 seconds over the tough 5,000m course.

The Tiger boys finished fifth overall while the Tiger girls were fourth.

Bangkok won the boys title, while the girls championship was won by Singapore.

TAS teams, which annually have a full slate of competition, canceled all pre-IASAS competition due to the attacks that occurred in the US on Sept. 11.
