    Weak yen boosts Japanese automakers

    Singapore's financial district glows at sunset. The number of Singaporeans earning below S$400 (US$230) a month or S$13 (US$7) day has jumped 40 percent since the financial crisis rocked the region in 1997 and 1998, swelling to 180,650 workers by last year, or around 9 percent of the workforce, government data showed yesterday. That is four times the growth in Singapore's labor market in the same period, according to the Ministry of Manpower's data.
