Rescue workers carry 68-year-old Lee Ho-sheng down from the mountains on a stretcher yesterday in Toucheng township in Ilan county. Lee's rescue was considered a miracle after he spent eight days trapped on the mountain. He was unable to walk after suffering from dehydration and broken ribs. Most of the mudslides caused by Typhoon Toraji in mountainous areas last week have been blamed on deforestation as a result of rampant hillside development.
