Kidnap suspect ran prostitution ring under protection of police, report says

STAFF WRITER

The sensational alleged kidnapping of a KMT legislator took on a new twist yesterday as the local Chinese-language media reported that the key suspect had been running a call-girl ring under the protection of police and Investigation Bureau officers.

The report said a police squad leader, surnamed Lin, and a retired investigator, surnamed Wang, allegedly protected the woman's business. Police had in the past received tips about the woman, whose real name is Chan Hui-hua (詹惠華) but runs her ring under the alias Lin Ann (林安), but failed to take action after coming under pressure from the officers, the report said.

Three squad leaders surnamed Lin at the Chungshan District Police Station were all summoned for questioning yesterday.

KMT legislator Huang Hsien-chou (黃顯洲) has accused Chan and her men of kidnapping him and holding him hostage in a suite at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Taipei for four days late last month. Huang claims he was drugged, tied up, held at gunpoint and robbed of NT$800,000.

Chan, however, has claimed that the lawmaker simply hired her and other women for a sadomasochistic sex party at the hotel.

Chan turned herself in on Friday and has been in police custody ever since. Yu Hung-tsan (游洪贊), an Indonesia-based overseas Taiwanese businessman, has also been detained in connection with the case.

After a meeting with Chan yesterday, her lawyer, Li Ming-yu (李明諭), hinted to reporters that Huang is bisexual and that Yu was also one of Huang's sex partners during the party.

Meanwhile, the Chinese-language media yesterday also ran a photo of a nude woman alleged to be Chan sitting in the hotel room.

The woman in the photo was sitting on the floor next to a bed, with her head turned away from the camera. Without naming names, the reports said a local tabloid magazine is planning to run the photo in its next issue.

Police officers collecting evidence at the Grand Hyatt suite said that Huang's fingerprints found in the suite suggest he was free to move around during his stay, the reports said.

Chan's younger brother Chan Fu-shun (詹福順), who said he was present at the party serving as a butler, claimed Huang took marijuana and Ecstasy during the party.
