Chen Shui-bian's (陳水扁) daughter was among the successful candidates who gained admission into National Taiwan University's (NTU) prestigious Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences yesterday.

The institute announced two new entrants to its graduate program yesterday. One of them is Chen Hsing-yu (陳幸妤), the president's only daughter.

The winning candidates selected were chosen on the basis of a series of written tests, interviews and credential reviews.

Chen, who graduated from National Yang-Ming University, is currently serving as a resident dentist at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. She will be required to quit her current job before enrolling at the institute.

Her father, President Chen, studied law at the prestigious NTU. Her husband, orthopedic surgeon Chao Chien-ming (趙建銘) was also an NTU student.

Chao married the first daughter in September.

First lady Wu Shu-chen (吳淑珍) apparently knew in advance about her daughter's admission to NTU's graduate dentistry program.

However, physicians at the university and the affiliated hospital kept mum about the selection process results, the Chinese-language media said.
