With none of the major players making a move, the game seems to have entered a period of stagnation.
But political watchers say that as the first session of the new legislature approaches on Feb. 1, the contest for domination of Taiwan's politics will come alive again.
Left to be worked out is who will serve as speaker and vice speaker of the new legislature.
The election of speaker -- which some are viewing as the first test of lawmakers' allegiance in the aftermath of the Dec. 1 elections -- will be important in shaping the new political landscape.
