College students would vote for Chen

President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) topped a poll of college students asked who they would vote for in a presidential election, the results of a poll showed yesterday.

The poll, conducted by the Chinese Culture Society between Dec. 1 and Saturday, questioned 1,563 students in 20 colleges and universities.

The poll showed that 38.1 percent said they would vote for Chen if an election were held the next day. Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) got 26.9 percent, People First Party Chairman James Soong (宋楚瑜) got 16.8 percent and KMT Chairman Lien Chan (連戰) 3.6 percent.

The margin of error was 2.48 percent.

The survey also showed that of those polled, 40.1 percent said that Chen would probably win if an election were held the next day, while 25.3 percent said Soong would win, 19.4 percent said Ma, and 2.6 percent said Lien.

Asked about the performance of government leaders, the res-pondents said they were most satisfied with Minister of Justice Chen Ding-nan (陳定南).

The justice minister was followed by President Chen Shui-bian, Environmental Protection Administration administrator Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌), Minister of Education Ovid Tzeng (曾志朗) and Mainland Affairs Council Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文).
