KMT Legislator Pan Wei-kang (潘維剛) yesterday threw her full support behind Taipei City Mayor Ma Ying-jeou's (馬英九) pledge to drive the sex industry out of the city.
Pan held a press conference to highlight her candidacy in the Dec. 1 legislative elections. At the conference, she urged the public to report small pornographic advertisements that can be seen "everywhere in public areas."
"These tiny pornographic advertisements, distributed by the sex industry, often contain phone numbers and can be found in public phone booths, public toilets and vehicles parked on the streets," said Pan.
"I hope doing so [reporting the advertisements] will help Mayor Ma's pledge regarding the sex industry," said Pan.
Pan was referring to the promise made in September by the mayor to rid the city of the sex industry within 30 days.
Telecommunications officials at the press conference emphasized a number for "the public to make use of and report pornorgraphic ads."
"When you come across those advertisements stuck randomly on your property and/or in public areas, call (02) 2343-3983 to report them," said Chang Chun-ming (張峻銘), senior specialist at the Public Telecommunications Department of the Ministry of Transportation and Communication.
Pan also asked the public to be aware of phone numbers that started with the numbers 0204, 0949, 0951 and 0947.
Pan said that by reporting pornographic phone numbers people "could help reduce the sex industry's customers."
