Taiwan's top negotiator with mainland China said yesterday that the two sides should communicate more instead of maintaining the current stalemate, and talk more about substantial issues than pre-requisites to resuming stalled dialogue.
SEF Chairman Koo Chen-fu (辜振甫) said at an SEF board of trustees meeting that leaders in both Taipei and Beijing must develop greater vision and more rational attitudes if a breakthrough is to be achieved.
Just as mainland China was able to achieve formidable achievements in economic growth over the past 20 years because it set aside the "shackles of ideology" and made conscientious efforts to face the issues that came up, so can cross-strait relations improve in the same manner, Koo said.
