One Year On: Economy - The straight-talking minister

In the year since Chen Shui-bian assumed office, no other minister has been more ferociously attacked by critics than Minister of Economic Affairs Lin Hsin-yi. Lin's recommendation to scrap the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant -- which he stands by today -- placed him at the center of a national debate over the future of Taiwan's power supply. Lin recently responded to questions posed by staff reporter Richard Dobson on growing unemployment and slowing economic growth, the nation's power situation, yet-to-be eased restrictions on investment in China and his plans for privatizing state-run companies
