President to fete Oscar-winning director on Sunday

The director of the Oscar-winning film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will make a return trip to Taiwan on Sunday, and President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) is scheduled to visit him in his southern Taiwan hometown of Tainan.

Ang Lee (李安) is not only expected to be greeted with a warm welcome from the president, but he will also attend a reward ceremony held by the Government Information Office under the Executive Yuan to honor his achievement.

Garnering four Oscars for best foreign-language film, cinematography, art direction and original score, the Chinese martial arts masterpiece proudly represents a new page in the Taiwanese movie industry's development as well as in Lee's career.

Lee will attend a press conference scheduled to take place upon his arrival before he heads to Tainan to meet with his family.

Chen graduated from the same high school as Lee.
