CLA makes appeal for direct hiring of foreign employees


Following the signing of a memorandum with the Philippine government on the direct import of workers, the Council of Labor Affairs (CLA) has appealed to Taiwan's businesses to take advantage of the new hiring channel.

Employers can currently apply to import foreign workers via representative offices of foreign governments with which the CLA has signed instruments on the direct employment of workers.

Lin Tsung-ming (林聰明), director of the CLA's Vocational Training Bureau, said that through the help of the Taiwan and foreign governments, employers could cut the time needed to hire a foreign worker by as much as a month, while foreign workers could save placement fees of between NT$50,000 and NT$100,000.

The import through government channels is only an option, Lin said. The the CLA will not ban the import of foreign workers through recruitment agencies, he said
