Rumors relating to the alleged gang rape of a bar hostess by two members of a popular five-man rock band continued to spread yesterday.
The victim had originally accused two members of the group The Chairman of rape, but she later changed her story.
Representatives had reportedly stepped in to help the band and the alleged victim work out a private settlement of the case.
The case was reported on Jan. 30 after the police found the victim crying in front of a police station. She accused the band members Wu Yung-chi (
According to the police, the victim met the band members at a pub. She was then invited to a hotel room at 4am. The victim said she was forced to perform oral sex and claimed to have been gang raped while drinking and playing card games.
The band's record company said the case originated from a simple misunderstanding. Wu and Tu told the company that the woman was Tsou's girlfriend and had falsely accused them to get her revenge as the result of a row. They claimed that they went to the hotel with the intention of helping Tsou settle an argument with the girl.
The victim had unexpectedly talked to the police right after the three gave their explanation to confirm the band members' story.
Police said they had found evidence for investigation, such as hair, sweat and body fluid on the sheets that "apparently looks like semen."
Further DNA analysis is being conducted on samples from the suspects and the hotel room.
The case is being pursued even after the retraction of the victim's story since sexual assault is a criminal matter in which the police decide whether or not to send a case to court.
Yesterday police declined to verify reports that public representatives had stepped in to settle the case privately.
The alleged victim can be charged for making a malicious accusation if a court decides that the three men are innocent, but a penalty can be avoided if she confesses before the case proceeds.

Together, they would create an immersive language environment, helping to motivate students while enhancing the skills of local teachers, she said. The ministry has since 2021 been recruiting foreign teachers through the Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program, which offers placement, salary, housing and other benefits to eligible foreign teachers. Two centers serving northern and southern Taiwan assist in recruiting and training

‘CARRIER KILLERS’: The Tuo Chiang-class corvettes’ stealth capability means they have a radar cross-section as small as the size of a fishing boat, an analyst said President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) yesterday presided over a ceremony at Yilan County’s Suao Harbor (蘇澳港), where the navy took delivery of two indigenous Tuo Chiang-class corvettes. The corvettes, An Chiang (安江) and Wan Chiang (萬江), along with the introduction of the coast guard’s third and fourth 4,000-tonne cutters earlier this month, are a testament to Taiwan’s shipbuilding capability and signify the nation’s resolve to defend democracy and freedom, Tsai said. The vessels are also the last two of six Tuo Chiang-class corvettes ordered from Lungteh Shipbuilding Co (龍德造船) by the navy, Tsai said. The first Tuo Chiang-class vessel delivered was Ta Chiang (塔江)
