MRT bosses put on all-night trains for New Year partying

STAFF WRITER

Taipei City's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system will operate 42 hours straight from Dec. 31 to midnight, Jan. 2.

The opening hours have been extended to facilitate the New Year celebrations that will be taking palace throughout the city.

This means that the trains will not stop running all night long, from today up until 12pm the next day -- one hour later than the usual finishing time for trains.

A similar service was successfully run last year

Some of the celebration venues include the plazas in front of the Presidential Office and the Taipei City Hall. Other events are planned for Chungshan Football Stadium, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, and the MRT station at Tamsui.

Trains will be dispatched every 10 to 30 minutes from 11pm on Dec. 31 to midnight on Jan 2.

Transfer buses for late-night revellers will also be available and will run until 1am on Jan. 1.
