"Taiwan doesn't have enough training for rescue dogs. Training for animals usually requires long-term and sustained efforts," he added.
Lee also expressed his hope of seeing Taiwan join international rescue organizations soon and providing assistance to other countries that experience earthquake.
Lee Chang-hak said that he was glad to learn that a rescue team from Taichung had been sent to South Korea for one-week's training, which provided opportunities for rescuers to exchange views on their work.
Lee's wife was 8-months pregnant last September and deeply worried about him. The couple now has a nine-month-old baby.
"I hope that people will generously show their support to rescuers' families, too, because they were as worried as victims families about their loved ones in the frontline of the devastated zone," Lee said, adding that he thanked his wife for supporting him.
