Sex slaves demand reparation

WAR CRIMES Groups fighting on behalf of women who were subjected to sexual slavery at the hands of the Japanese are meeting in Taipei ahead of the Tokyo tribunal

By Irene Lin  /  STAFF REPORTER

"When the tribunal opens in Tokyo in December, over 600 `comfort women' will attend to have their traumatic experiences heard by the world," said Ko Su-lun (葛書倫), executive director of the Taipei Women's Rescue Foundation (北市婦女救援基金會), which hosts the preparatory meeting Taipei.

The prosecution has determined Japan as the primary defendant in the indictments issued.

During the war, thousands of women in Asian countries were held captive to serve as "comfort women" for the convenience of Japanese soldiers. Under the sexual slavery system, the women faced hideous sexual torture and violence on a daily basis.
