Police arrest two more in kidnapping of businessman

STAFF WRITER

Police yesterday arrested two more suspects in the kidnapping of Chou Pu-pin (周浦彬), a major shareholder in the Askey Computer Corp (亞旭電腦).

Investigators arrested Hsiao Li-ling (蕭麗玲) and Amy Chou (周燦煌) yesterday morning. Hsiao is the girlfriend of Wu Yen-lung (吳彥龍), the primary suspect in the case who was captured on Tuesday night.

According to police, Amy Chou and Chou Pu-pin were known to each other. On July 24, Hsiao called Chou pretending to be Amy to seduce him out into the open.

The computer businessman was then snatched by Hsiao and Wu. Other suspects in the case include Chai Yung-sen (柴永森), Hu Yiguang (胡貽光), and two illegal aliens from China, Guan Jianmin (關劍民) and Guo Guofan (郭國凡). In addition to Wu, these suspects were also arrested on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, police found a large wooden box and many fake identification cards in the apartment where Chou was held in Hsichih (汐止), Taipei County.

Police said the kidnappers were planning to hide Chou in the box and smuggle him to China on Tuesday, the day he was freed by police.

Chou is a friend of President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁), who yesterday congratulated the police for their hard work.
