A doctor at National Taiwan University Hospital could be facing a lawsuit for insulting the parents of one of his patients, according to recent reports in the Chinese-language press.
Wang Tsung-hua (
According to reports, Lin, a pediatrics doctor of some standing within the medical community, visited Wang's son's ward three days ago.
He then examined the baby without the permission of his parents. When Wang asked the doctor what the prognosis was, Lin told him, "a genetic problem is to blame for your son's disease.
"Frankly, it's all due to his lousy origin. His immune genes are as bad as those of Chen Chin-hsing (陳進興)," Lin said. Chen was the infamous perpetrator of the high-profile kidnapping and murder of Pai Hsiao-yen (白曉燕).
Wang was speechless and did not know how to react when he heard Lin's reply, the reports said. But later he decided to sue Lin for insulting his ancestry and blaming the baby's lineage for the affliction.
Wang said that if the hospital failed to give him a reasonable explanation for the remark, he would demand NT$110 million in compensation for "damage to the reputation of his ancestors," the reports said.
According to Chen Ming-feng, (陳明豐) a hospital spokesman, Lee Yuan-te (李源德), the hospital's director said he was sorry about the incident and would apologize to Wang in person.
