NGOs could be lifeline to international acceptance

HOME HELP NGOs offer Taiwan one of the few remaining hopes left of breaking the diplomatic isolation forced on it by China. However, a lack of understanding and poor funding efforts by the government seem to have spoiled their chances

Unfortunately, those who are already involved in NGO work claim the government appears to have overlooked this fact. Its attitude remains fixed in the past as it is obsessed with giving only in the hope of gaining something in return.

Many developed countries have national institutes that deal with international development aid, and offer funding for their NGOs, like USAID (United States of American AID), AUSAID (Australian AID), JICA (Japanese International Cooperation Agency) and others.

"It is too difficult to operate NGO alliances without governmental help," Fu said.
