Supporters of independent presidential candidate James Soong (宋楚瑜), who has been fingered as owning a luxury condominium in Hawaii, claim many of Lien Chan's (連戰) top officials own property abroad themselves.
A group of pro-Soong independent legislators issued a statement yesterday, listing overseas properties allegedly owned by some of the KMT's high-ranking officials making up Lien Chan's campaign team.
The statement seemed to be in retaliation for reports that surfaced last week, saying Soong may have bought real estate in Hawaii with the massive sums of money he had remitted to the US.
The money sent abroad has been the target of many government investigations into Soong's financial dealings.
Soong has vehemently denied the rumors of financial impropriety, and has accused the KMT of trying to tarnish his public image.

Kuan is also a key figure in Lien's campaign team.
The statement went on to name several other top government officials, including Wei Duan (韋端), Director-General of the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics; Chan Chi-shean (詹啟賢), director of the Environmental Protection Administration; Chan Hou-sheng (詹火生), Chairman of the Council of Labor Affairs; Hu Wei-chen (胡為真), director of the National Security Bureau; and 15 other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
