Rare animals such as mountain goats and red deer are becoming extinct because of over hunting, according to an ecological study done by Wang Ying (
Wang said that even in an environment rich in vegetation, the animals are difficult to find. He believes that hunting -- both with guns and with traps -- is the main reason for the dwindling number of mountain goats and red deer.
Prohibition of hunting is almost impossible to enforce, Wang said, but suggested that authorities make a stronger effort to regulate it. Wang did point out, however, that rhesus monkeys, hares and boars are plentiful in the northern region.
