Meet Kathleen the mouse and Mark the elephant. Kathleen is very brave and likes adventure, but Mark is very shy and scared of many things. But friends stay together, so Mark follows Kathleen wherever she goes. Sometimes they get into some very sticky situations.


In the belly of the whale 鯨腹求生

Mark and Kathleen were drinking tea at a cafe in Tokyo.

"This has been a great trip," said Kathleen. "I've had a really good time."

"Me too," Mark agreed. "I'll still be happy to go home tomorrow, though. I miss my family."

"Before we leave, let's try to have a little more fun," replied Kathleen. "Come on, follow me."

Kathleen and Mark paid for their tea and set off.

"Where are we going?" Mark asked.

"We're going to the East Gardens, outside of the Imperial Palace," Kathleen answered. "It's one of the most beautiful places we could go."

"What's so great about it?" Mark mumbled. "It's just some flowers ..."

When they got to the East Gardens, Mark changed his mind. There were beautiful cherry trees, lakes, flowers, even part of an old castle.

Mark picked up a flat stone and skipped it across the nearby lake. "This is surprisingly beautiful," Mark mused. "I never knew I liked flowers so much." He picked up a second stone.

"I told you it would be fun," Kathleen smiled.

As Mark's second stone fell into the lake, a whale suddenly jumped out of the lake and swallowed up Mark before he could move ....
