A charity event organized out of concern for elderly people suffering from dementia took place in Tainan’s Shanhua District on April 10. At the event, lectures offering medical advice and health education were on offer together with health checkups and free haircuts, as well as games. Almost 800 people attended the event to make battle to “protect their memories” on behalf of their relatives.
The theme of the event, “protect your memory,” combined education with pleasure to provide a learning experience, help members of the public gain an understanding of dementia and raise awareness for the elderly.
WHO research data show that, on average, someone somewhere in the world starts getting dementia every four seconds. Medically speaking, this is an abnormal age-related disease, and since prevention is preferable to treatment, promoting a public understanding is quite important.

The Chimei Hospital in Tainan’s Liouying District organized a lecture on dementia that offered examples of the use of medication and care and offered an experience of how to lead a happy life at an advanced age. Using three aspects — prevention, discovery and companionship — the lecture built a comprehensive plan for protecting memory.
Estimates based on domestic medical research show that by 2046, there will be 620,000 people suffering from dementia in Taiwan. Since “old age comes to us all,” promoting prevention and treatment of dementia is of the utmost urgency.

The Bank of Japan (BoJ) announced a seismic change in direction on March 19, hiking interest rates for the first time in 17 years. The move represents an unwinding of an ultra-loose — and maverick -- policy aimed at putting Japan’s “lost decades” of stagnation and deflation behind it. The last time the BoJ raised interest rates was in 2007, but its war against deflation began in earnest in 2013 under then-prime minister Shinzo Abe. “Abenomics” combined generous government spending and central bank monetary easing. The BoJ spent vast amounts on bonds and other assets to pump liquidity into the

In some countries, people actually adjust their clocks to gain or lose an hour, all for the sake of Daylight Saving Time (DST). Specifically, clocks are set forward by an hour in March and then set back in November. One of the primary reasons for implementing DST is to make better use of natural daylight so that people can reduce energy consumption. The concept originated with Benjamin Franklin in 1784 and became widely adopted during World War I. Today, this system is in place
