Due to factors related to the proprietor’s health, the owners of the culinary icon “Mr. Hsieh’s sticky rice cakes” in Changhua County’s Yuanlin Township decided to close their doors on May 31. Large numbers of connoisseurs lined up every day of the last week in May to enjoy and savor a final taste. On the last weekend of May, the long queues were even more startling, and some visitors came from as far away as Taipei, with one person buying 100 bowls.
Mr. Hsieh’s sticky rice cakes had previously received authentication from the president and are another must-have delicacy alongside Taiwanese meatballs. The sticky rice cakes were the ancestral craft of the owner, Hsieh Wei-te, who made them by pouring minced pork sauce on steamed sticky rice with a side of small cucumbers. The fresh and delicious taste has been popular in the area for 35 years.
Mr. Hsieh’s opened on time every morning at 11am, and down to the final few days, he had no intention of working overtime. After the last bowl was sold, the shop closed for good on May 31. On May 30 at 9:30am, a woman surnamed Tu, who could not get enough of Mr. Hsieh’s sticky rice cakes even after eating there for a decade, was lining up out front, and because her friends from northern Taiwan wanted to have a taste, she bought 100 bowls to take to them.

獲得總統認證的謝米糕,是彰化除了肉圓外,另一項非吃不可的美食指標,老闆謝衛德靠著祖傳的手藝,將蒸熟的糯米淋上肉燥再配上小黃瓜,清爽可口的滋味風靡在地三十五年。
謝米糕每天早上十一點準時營業,最後倒數時刻也沒有加班打算,五月三十一日最後一天,賣完就打烊。五月三十日早上九點半,吃了十幾年謝米糕都不嫌膩的余小姐就來排隊了;因為北部朋友想吃,因此幫忙團購了一百碗,再北上交給友人。
