Dalu of the Atayal people lives in the Shihlei tribal area in Hsinchu County’s Jianshih Township. Several years ago, doctors said that his wife had terminal cancer and would not live for much longer.
Depressed and discouraged, Dalu decided to try a therapeutic diet, old wisdom passed down by the Atayal elders. He tasted many kinds of plants growing on Jianshih Mountain to make sure they were suitable for use as cancer medication, and then cultivated them using natural agricultural methods. Not only did this cure his wife’s cancer, the two are now also living happily tilling their land and operating the Luo Ching-lang Natural Farm together, where they grow natural non-toxic vegetables that visitors are free to pick, taste and eat together.
Luo Ching-lang — Dalu’s Chinese name — makes his living as a farmer on Jianshih Mountain. In the past, he sprayed his vegetables with chemical pesticides, but the dust gave his wife cancer. Having heard that Taxus chinensis, commonly known as Chinese yew, could be used to fight cancer, he picked Chinese yew leaves on Jianshih Mountain.

In addition, Dalu also gave up using pesticides in his farming in favor of knowledge about nature passed down by the Atayal elders and replaced the chemical and organic fertilizers he had used in the past with local materials. The vegetables he planted where then made to absorb a nutritional liquid extracted from several Chinese medicinal plants. After several years of changes and adjustments, he gradually developed a kind of agriculture combining a natural and spiritual lifestyle producing safe and non-toxic vegetables that can be eaten directly from the stalk.

羅慶郎是達陸的漢名,在尖石山上以務農維生,過去以化學農藥噴灑蔬菜,但農藥粉塵卻讓妻子罹癌,他聽聞紅豆杉具有抗癌效果,便在尖石山裡摘取紅豆杉的葉子。
此外,達陸也改採無農藥農業,利用泰雅耆老傳承下來的山林知識,以在地資材取代過往的化學、有機肥料,讓他種植的蔬菜汲取內含多種漢方藥材所提煉出來的營養液,經過多年修正、調整,逐步發展出結合自然與靈性生活的農業,讓蔬菜安全無毒,可直接摘取品嚐。
