The husband-and-wife duo Chung You-hui and Lin Hsueh-ching are well-known print artists in Taiwan. They celebrate their anniversary every five years by organizing a joint exhibition, serving as a testimony to their love and promoting the art of printmaking at the same time.

Originally from Cihtung Township in Yunlin County, Chung moved with his parents to Taipei at the age of eight. After completing his military service, he studied at National Taiwan Normal University in the Department of Fine Arts. After graduating he married Lin, who was his classmate. The two of them became interested in the art of printmaking during their time at the university and formed a printmaking club with fellow classmates who were also fond of printing called the Evergreen Graphic Art Association. Chung taught design and graphic art courses at various schools including Fu-Hsin Trade and Arts School after graduating.

The couple eventually went to Japan to study printmaking in the art and design master’s program at the University of Tsukuba. Upon returning to Taiwan they began teaching at National Taiwan University of Arts, known as National Academy of Arts at the time, and set up a printmaking center at the school. The duo has spared no efforts in promoting printmaking. This is the first time they have returned to their hometown to hold an exhibition together.

Chung says that art is a great way to relieve stress, and says that everyone has artistic talent but just needs to discover it first. He says that printmaking is the best door to that discovery. Since retiring Chun has devoted even more energy to promoting printmaking. As long as a student is willing to pay for their own materials he will teach them free of charge.
