Greek PM’s bodyguard shot in thigh...by himself 希臘總理隨扈警槍走火大腿中彈

A policeman guarding Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis shot himself in the leg while driving home from duty, police said.

Confirming the security department's reputation for making mistakes, the unidentified policeman's gun fired as he tried to loosen his belt, firing a bullet into his thigh and severing a main artery, police said.

Luckily for the officer, he was passing in front of a military hospital where doctors were able to stop the flow of blood and save his life.

Last month, another policeman reportedly injured himself while trying to shoot at a hijacked helicopter as it flew two dangerous prisoners out of Athens’ high security Korydallos prison.

In December, an officer shot and killed a teenage boy when his patrol car was hit with stones by a group of youths.

The death of 15-year-old Alexis Grigoropoulos led to the worst Greek riots in decades.
