Soccer surprise! 足球驚奇!

It was the day of the national soccer cup final between Red Park Rovers and Hampton United, and Mark and Kathleen had tickets for the best seats in the stadium. Mark was a fan of Red Park and Kathleen was a fan of Hampton. “I think Hampton will win today. Our strikers are just too fast for the Red Park defense,” said Kathleen confidently. But Mark wasn’t so sure. “I think Red Park will win. We’ve just bought a new midfielder from Brazil. He’s great!”

But before they had a chance to discuss the game in more detail, the referee blew his whistle to start the game. All the fans stood up and cheered as the game got underway. Hampton attacked first and almost scored in the first minute, but the goalie made a great save. Then Red Park had a great chance but the striker missed the goal. “This is the best game I’ve ever seen!” said Mark, excitedly.

After 90 minutes it was still 0-0. As the game went into extra time, two players got injured when they went to head the ball. The coaches had used all their substitutes so there was nobody to replace the injured players. They turned to the crowd and said, “We need players! Does anybody want to play?” As quick as a flash, Mark and Kathleen ran onto the pitch and pulled on the uniforms. Mark was playing for Red Park and Kathleen was playing goalie for Hampton.

In the final minute of extra time it was still 0-0 and Mark was just about to score, when he was tripped by a Hampton defender. The referee gave the defender a red card and awarded a penalty to Red Park. The Red Park captain said to Mark, “You’ve had a great game today, so I want you take the penalty. Just don’t miss…”
