`Car Kabob' statue from `Wayne's World' for sale on eBay網拍「汽車串烤」

A towering sculpture of eight cars made famous in the movie Wayne’s World is up for sale on eBay.

The suburban Chicago landmark is named the Spindle. It features cars from the 1960s, 70s and 80s skewered on a metal spike.

Bids opened at US$50,000 (NT$1.5 million), and the auction closes today.

The eBay listing says it will cost US$100,000 to ship the structure, which is over 15m tall.

The Spindle is also known as the Car Kabob and the Eight Car Pileup. Fans of the 1992 comedy Wayne’s World, starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, still go to Berwyn, Illinois, to see the statue.

The car at the top of the structure is a VW Beetle. The car below it is a BMW donated by David Bermant, the owner of the shopping center.

Berwyn residents are divided on what to do with the structure, which is covered with rust and pigeon droppings. It was supposed to be taken down last year to make way for a pharmacy. But preservation groups formed and protested.

California artist Dustin Shuler built the piece in 1989. Shuler is known for creating sculptures that question the purpose of cars in our everyday lives.

eBay的拍賣商品資訊上明列，這個超過十五公尺高的雕塑，運費要價十萬美元。

「紡錘體」也稱為「汽車串烤」或是「八車疊羅漢」。一九九二年由麥克．邁爾斯和達那．卡維主演的喜劇《反斗智多星》的影迷，至今仍會到伊利諾州的貝爾文來瞻仰這座雕塑。

這個結構體的最頂端是一輛福斯的金龜車，其次則是由購物商場老闆大衛．柏曼捐出的一輛寶馬汽車。

貝爾文的居民對於該怎麼處理這個布滿鐵銹和鴿大便的結構體意見分歧；該結構體本該在去年拆除，讓出空地興建藥局，但部分希望保存的團體群起抗議。

這件藝術品是加州藝術家達斯汀．舒勒在一九八九年建造的，舒勒的雕塑作品向來以質疑汽車在日常生活中的用途聞名。
