The painting in the photograph sold for a lot of money last month. It is a piece of original artwork for a Tintin comic book. It fetched a record 764,200 euros (NT$36.7 million) at a Paris auction, organizer Artcurial said.

The 1932 oil painting was drawn for the iconic cover of Tintin in America. The sale smashed the previous world record for an original comic book work.

That was set in March 2007 when a drawing by artist Enki Bilal called Bleu Sang (Blue Blood) fetched 177,000 euros (NT$8.5 million).

The painting was done by Tintin¡¦s Belgian creator Hergé. It was judged a ¡§museum piece¡¨ in Artcurial¡¦s auction catalogue.

The sale was held on March 29. It was a one-off sale of 650 comic originals. Each comic had a starting price of 280,000 euros (NT$13.4 million). The gallery and auction house said the total earnings came to roughly 3.4 million euros (NT$163.4 million).
