Some 150 young women ran down Amsterdam's most famous fashion street in stiletto heels last week. They were racing for a ?10,000 (NT$470,000) prize.
The annual race on the P.C. Hooft street is called the "Stiletto Run." It is only three years old but has quickly become popular. Now there are imitation races in Germany, Sweden, Poland and Russia.
The race's motto is "Shopping Is a Sport" and friendly competition is encouraged.
"At the start there was a lot of pushing," said Fauve Stukje, 18, who came with a small group of friends and a big pink sign.
She said she slightly regretted her choice of shoes, which were 10cm high. That's a little higher than the 9cm minimum allowed.
Tamara Ruben, 25, from the town of Veenendaal, won first prize in the 350m race. She ran so smoothly you might think she was wearing sneakers.

上週約有一百五十名年輕女子踩著細高跟鞋，在阿姆斯特丹最著名的精品街上奔跑，爭取一萬歐元（新台幣四十七萬元）的賽跑獎金。
這項名為「細高跟鞋賽跑」的活動每年定期在阿姆斯特丹的胡福特街舉辦，雖然今年才邁入第三年，但參加的民眾卻相當踴躍；現在德國、瑞典、波蘭和俄羅斯也出現了類似的比賽。
這場比賽的口號是「購物即運動」，並鼓勵良性競爭。
十八歲的參賽者菲芙．史都琪耶說：「大家在起跑點擠成一團。」陪同她前來的朋友們則在一旁舉著粉紅色的大標語。
她表示她有一點後悔選了一雙十公分高的高跟鞋，那比主辦單位規定的九公分還高一點。
拿下這項三百五十公尺賽跑冠軍的是今年二十五歲、來自費南戴爾鎮的泰瑪拉．魯本。她跑得相當輕鬆順暢，讓人以為她是穿著球鞋在跑。
