Art Conrad doesn't like how Christmas has become mostly about shopping. And his protest has gone way beyond staying away from malls.
The US resident nailed Santa Claus to a 4.5m crucifix in front of his house in Bremerton, Washington.
Santa has become "the person being used by corporations to get us to buy more stuff," Conrad said. He even put a photo of Santa on the cross on his Christmas cards. The cards have the message "Santa died for your MasterCard."
The display is also Conrad's way of poking fun at political correctness. He believes people do not express their feelings enough.
But Conrad's neighbors decided to express their opinions after seeing the Santa. Some were angry, but many were just curious or confused. For example, Jake Tally said, "I don't really know what to think."
