Finnish-born artist Eino made a US$1 million (NT$32.5 million) sculpture called Spaceship Earth that mysteriously collapsed in December 2006. He spent about four months rebuilding it.
A figure of environmentalist David Brower is on top of the sculpture, which is meant to remind people in the future of how fragile the earth is. But it turned out to be much more fragile than Eino thought.
At first the structure's collapse was blamed on poor adhesive. But after investigation, an expert said he thinks somebody purposely knocked the statue over.
Eino said the collapse of his artwork was "devastating."
"It was very difficult for me to put it back together mentally," he said. "I felt absolutely horrible when it came down, but I felt a responsibility to put it back up."
Eino said he changed the design during the rebuilding to help make sure his sculpture stays together.
