Residents in the Russian town of Sarov got a big surprise on Aug. 7 when a crocodile fell from the sky. The crocodile had fallen from the twelfth-story apartment of its owner.

The 1m cayman crocodile landed on a sidewalk after leaning too far out of the window of the apartment. The crocodile had been living in the apartment for the last 15 years.

Frightened passers-by called the emergency services and rescuers managed to lasso the stunned animal and take it to a shelter for stray pets.

It was soon returned to its owner, unharmed apart from damage to one of its teeth.

Cayman crocodiles normally live in slow-moving rivers, lakes, ponds or swamps. However, they are very adaptable and seem happy to live anywhere that has fresh water and is the right temperature.
