A glittering bathtub made of gold, worth 120 million yen (NT$32,578,964) has been stolen from a resort hotel near Tokyo.

A worker at Kominato Hotel Mikazuki in Kamogawa, south of Tokyo, notified police the fancy tub was missing from the hotel's guest bathroom on the 10th floor of its building, according to a local police official who only gave his surname, Ogawa.

The round tub, 1.21m in diameter and 71cm tall, was made of 18-karat gold weighing 80kg, Ogawa said.

The tub, flanked by two crane statues, has been a main feature of the hotel's shared men's bathroom. Visitors can take a dip in the tub, but it is only available a few hours a day "for security reasons,'' according to the hotel chain's website.

When the tub was not available for guest's use the door to the room was locked with chains, but the chains were found cut off.

The bath tub was not riveted to the floor and police said they found no signs that the heavy bathtub had been dragged out of the hotel.

The police said, "We really don't know how this happened at this stage. But what we can assume now is that more than one person was involved in this incident."

"We have no witness information and there are no video cameras,'' Ogawa said. "We have no idea who took it.''

A similar bathtub in the hotel's shared bathroom for women is still in place, he said.

The cranes standing next to the bath were left untouched.

    cut off¡@¤ÁÂ_¡AÂ_½u
In the article, cut off is used in the literal sense. However cut off is also used as a figure of speech. For example: "My phone has been cut off," does not mean that the wires to your telephone have been physically cut. It means that the phone company have stopped your service. Cut off is also used in the same way for all household utilities.
Another example where cut off is used is when something blocks your only exit route. "I tried to get back to land, but the rising tide had cut me off."

Amy: Yeah, that was pretty daring. Does the hotel have any idea what happened yet?
Sam: Apparently not. Still, one thing's for sure.
    Amy: What's that?
Sam: They certainly made a clean getaway!
