Police caught a rather unusual suspect in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA on May 29. The police were in Knoxville's entertainment district. The suspect was a 59kg black bear.

The bear was first spotted the night before near the University of Tennessee but eluded police by climbing over a fence. Officials believe they saw same bear in a rail yard, but they couldn't catch him.

Officials from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency were called in to tranquilize the bear. The bear was in an alley near lots of shops, restaurants and nightclubs.

Bears commonly are seen in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, about 40km away from Knoxville, but are rarely seen in the city.

The bear was set free in the Cherokee National Forest in southeastern Tennessee.
