The Adventures of Kathleen the Great and Mark the Meek

    Saturday, Mar 17, 2007,Page 13

Meet Kathleen the mouse and Mark the elephant. Kathleen is very brave and likes adventure, but Mark is very shy and scared of many things. But friends stay together, so Mark follows Kathleen wherever she goes. Sometimes they get into some very sticky situations.

Not eggactly what Mark had in mind

When she walked into Mark's new place one day, Kathleen asked Mark, “How do you like the new apartment?”

“It's great. I have a big kitchen and room for another couch,” Mark replied as he washed his dishes. “Plus the green walls are soothing.”

“Yeah, it makes a nice atmosphere,” Kathleen said. “So what do you want to do today?”

“Well, to tell you the truth, I was thinking we could take a short trip to the traditional market to buy some food,” Mark told Kathleen as he dried his hands. “What do you think?”

“Let's go!” Kathleen was already halfway out the door. As they walked through the market, Kathleen and Mark saw all kinds of wonderful food: giant carrots, tender corn, white onions and spicy peppers. “I love shopping here!” Mark exclaimed. “The food is cheap and fresh.”

“I enjoy it too,” Kathleen said as she examined some ginger.

When they got to the farmer selling chickens and eggs, Mark examined them. “How much for the eggs?” he asked as he picked out the best ones.

Before the boss could answer, Mark knocked the box of eggs onto the floor, breaking some and making the rest roll around ....
