The first diet pill for dogs will soon be sold in the United States, but you will need to see a vet before you give it to your dog.
The pill, Slentrol, absorbs fat and makes the dog less hungry.
Some say this is good news for dogs, because dog obesity appears to be getting worse.
Veterinarians know that fat pets normally have more health problems. Those include heart problems, hip problems and diabetes, according to the Center for Veterinary Medicine.
A dog is obese when he is 20 percent over his ideal weight. Five percent of American dogs are obese, while another 20 to 30 percent are overweight.
The main reason dogs seem to be getting fatter is because more people are buying dogs that don't have a yard. Owners also don't have time to play with their dog and give him exercise.
In 2002 there were more than 62 million dogs in the US.
