What do you know about energy? Think about it. You use it every day: every time you turn on a light or take a ride in a car, bus or scooter, you are using energy. But what do you know about where energy comes from?
Energy can come from lots of places. Most cars, trucks, boats, buses and scooters are powered by energy that comes from oil. Other energy is made by burning coal. Both of these types of energy allow us to do all the things we love to do, but they are not very good for the environment we love.
Many people want to see the world get more of its energy from things that don't hurt the environment, like the sun, water or the wind. The machines in this picture are called wind turbines, and they take the energy from the wind and turn it into electricity.
Although the idea of turning wind into electricty is new, using the power of the wind is not. People have been using wind power for hundreds of years. Windmills were once used all over the world to pump water or grind grain.
