Meet Kathleen the mouse and Mark the elephant. Kathleen is very brave and likes adventure, but Mark is very shy and scared of many things. But friends stay together, so Mark follows Kathleen wherever she goes. Sometimes they get into some very sticky situations.

One afternoon, Mark was doing his homework when he dropped his pencil. It rolled underneath the couch. Mark reached his long trunk under the couch to get it and let out a huge sneeze. The dust under the couch was a centimeter thick!
"Kathleen!" he called. "I think it's time to do some chores."
"Great idea!" said Kathleen. "We'll fight the dust and dirt and we'll win! We'll sweep and mop the whole house from top to bottom!"
"You should start by bringing the dirty dishes out of your room and washing your dirty clothes," Mark answered.
"OK, fine. But after that, we attack the dirt!" Kathleen yelled as she ran back to her room to get started.
Mark picked up the couch and moved it aside. Next, he found a broom and began sweeping the floor. When he finished, he went to see how Kathleen was doing.
She was pushing as hard as she could against her desk, but it was not moving. "I want to sweep behind my desk," she explained.
Mark picked up her tiny desk with his trunk and moved it, but just then three spiders ran out. "Ahh! Spiders! Don't let them get me!" Mark screamed as he ran from the room.
一天下午，馬克在做功課時，把鉛筆弄掉到地上，鉛筆就滾進沙發底下。馬克伸出長象鼻到沙發底下撿，卻打了個大噴嚏。沙發底下的灰塵有一英吋那麼厚！
他大叫：「凱薩琳！我想該做家事了。」
凱薩琳回答：「好主意！我們要對抗灰塵污垢，打敗它們，我們要把整間房子從頭到尾掃過一遍，再用拖把擦洗。」
馬克回答：「妳應該先把妳房間的髒碗盤清出來，再洗妳的髒衣服。」
「好，但是等我做完，我們就來對付髒污！」凱薩琳邊喊邊跑回房間開始整理。

That book is covered in dust because no one has touched it in 10 years.
十年來沒人翻閱過這本書，所以上面已有一層灰塵。
2. chore n. 家事 (jia1 shi4)
Before I can play, I have to finish my chores. I need to clean my room, feed the cat and help my mother fold the clothes.
我得做完家事才能玩。我得打掃自己的房間、餵貓和幫媽媽折衣服。
3. sweep v.i./v.t. 清掃 (qing1 sao3)
When Winston broke a glass, he got a broom and swept up the pieces.
溫斯頓打破了一只玻璃杯，就拿了掃把將碎片掃起來。
4. mop v.i./v.t. 拖地 (tuo1 di4)
Be careful! The floor was just mopped and it is still a little wet.
小心！地板剛拖過，還有點溼。
馬克把沙發抬起來，搬到一旁，然後找了一支掃把，開始掃地。掃完以後，他跑去看凱薩琳在做什麼。
凱薩琳使盡全力地推她的書桌，書桌卻一動也不動，她解釋：「我想清掃書桌後面。」
馬克用象鼻抬起她的小書桌，搬到一旁，這時卻有三隻蜘蛛跑出來。「啊！有蜘蛛！不要讓牠們咬到我！」馬克放聲尖叫，衝出房間。
