Did you know that there is more to see than what your eyes can show you?

Human eyes can't see the smallest parts of the world, like the germs and bacteria that are everywhere.

But there is a way to see those things. The machine in this picture is called a microscope, and it works by making things look much, much larger than they really are.

There are other things to see besides germs and bacteria. Using a microscope, you can look at pretty things up close, like a leaf or the petal of a flower. They are even more beautiful when you look at them through a microscope.

Do you know? IN DETAIL The word microscope, like many English words, comes from Greek. In Greek, micron means small and scopos means aim. The word microscopic comes from microscope. It describes something that is too small to be seen without a microscope.
