    Riding high

How many wheels does your bicycle have?

Bicycles have two wheels, because it is much easier to balance if you have one wheel in the front and one wheel in the back.

This man is riding a unicycle. Because it only has one wheel, it is much harder to balance on top of a unicycle than it is to balance on top of a bicycle.

That's why this man has both of his hands out. If you look at his face, you can see that it isn't easy to ride a unicycle. Putting out both of his hands helps him keep riding without falling.

This unicycle is special because the rider sits so far off the ground. How do you think he got up there?
    Do you know?
    WORDS AND NUMBERS
What's the difference between the word "bicycle" and the word "unicycle"? The beginning of the word, right? When "uni" is at the front of a word it means "one", as in one wheel. "Bi" means "two", and "tri" means "three." So a bicycle with three wheels is called a tricycle.
