The machine he is using is a rocket pack. It's like a backpack, except instead of holding books, it lets you fly.
You can't fly for very long, though. This rocket pack can only let you fly for 30 seconds.
This rocket pack was made for the US army in the 1960s, but they decided it wasn't practical to have people fly this way, even though it was fun.
The man in the picture is in Australia. The rocket pack he's using is the only one that travels the world for shows so that lots of people can see it.
