Eight is enough

The ``Eight Sung Commanders,'' shown above, yesterday appear to eliminate evil spirits and bring good luck at the opening ceremony of the Sanjiaotu Riverside Arts Festival held by the Taipei City Government. The eight figures have deep roots in Taiwanese temple culture, and in one version of their origins, they represent eight generals who helped a Qing Emperor eliminate the plague.Apr 11, 2005
