Taiwanese travelers urged to be careful

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised Taiwanese intending to visit Bangkok over the next few days to be alert because of the possibility of political unrest there.

Quoting the latest report from Taiwan's representative office in Bangkok, ministry spokesman David Wang (王建業) said the situation in Bangkok had been "business as usual" so far and that the Thai government had mobilized 10,000 military and police personnel to prevent possible violent protests.

Nevertheless, Wang said the ministry had to remind Bangkok-bound travelers to be careful.

Wang also advised Taiwanese to refrain from traveling to the Songkhla and Hat Yai areas in southern Thailand following a series of explosions there on Sunday and Monday that killed four people and injured 36.

Thailand-bound travelers are advised to contact Taiwan's mission in Bangkok via the hotline 002-6681-666-4006 if they need emergency assistance.
